School improvement planning
The Self-Study Survey data can help you plan and monitor your school improvement activities. It can be used to augment your current improvement activities, whether you have a school improvement team, committees, or focus groups. The data you gather with the Self-Study Surveys will help you assess the levels of instructional practices, team practices, parent involvement, professional development needs, etc. This information will allow you to set data-based goals and implement an action plan. The Self-Study, when administered more than once, can also help you monitor and evaluate your progress.
Specifically, the Self-Study can be used to help you comply with NCLB: If you have a student population or subgroup that is lagging, you can use the Self-Study to reveal the linkages between practices and outcomes, and use that data to help you plan for improvement.
• Plan your professional development calendar
• Set improvement goals for instruction
• Assess your school’s climate
• Identify ways to improve communication with parents
Schools have utilized the Self-Study for a variety of other uses, including:
• Comprehensive school reform efforts/models
• Grantwriting
• Public relations
