Middle School Self-Study components

Staff Survey
The Staff Survey asks about classroom practices, integration of instruction and curricula, leadership, decision-making practices, professional development needs, school climate, attitudes toward educational practices, parent contact and involvement, and school safety.

It takes approximately 75 minutes to complete, and can be conducted during planning time, faculty meetings, professional development days, etc.

Student Survey
The Student Survey asks about students’ perception of classroom practices, school climate and school safety, academic expectations, self-esteem and academic efficacy, behavior problems, parent/family involvement, student support and advisory assistance. It takes approximately 60 minutes to complete and requires a “passive consent” procedure.

The Student Survey is written at a 5th-grade reading level, and is available in Spanish. To ensure the data represents the views of the entire student population, the survey should be administered to all students in your middle grades (5th-8th grades).

Principal Survey
The Principal Survey asks about additional demographic and organizational information about your school.

Parent Survey
The Parent Survey asks about parents’ attitudes about school, perceptions of school climate, communication with school staff, and involvement in their children’s education. It takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete, is written at a 5th-grade reading level, and is available in Spanish.
